Installation of a LiveWorld production with MapInstaller

LiveWorld Desktop MapInstall assists you in the installation process of LiveWorld productions from your PC to your mobile phone. The menus have not yet been translated into English, however, it's use is so simple and explained in the following that you should get along witout difficulties. You need a mobile phone with a memory card and a fitting USB-cable for the connection between you PC and your phone. The phone has to repond as an external mass storage device (USB stick) which is true for most of the current devices. In many cases you will have to carry out specific settings on your phone under "connections/USB" before you turn your phone's memory card into a "quasi USB stick".

Each LiveWorld production is packed into a zip-file. Download the desired production in our "Dowmloads / Productions" section, or use the MapInstaller's browser.

Installation Step by Step

Start the MapInstaller on your PC. When you do this for the first time and you have not yet loaded a production you will see the following window.

Now you have two options to load the desired production into the local filing system of the MapInstaller.

  • With "Kartendatei öffnen... (open map file)" you load a production which you have previously downloaded from the internet to your PC.
  • With "Karte herunterladen (download map)" you start the MapInstaller's browser and you can download a desired production directly from the internet.

After having transferred a production into the local filing system (Nuesttal in the example), the MapInstaller window looks as follows.

Connect your phone with the USB-cable to your PC, make sure that it works in the data transfer mode as external storage device. The phone has to appear as a drive in the Windows-Explorer.

Now open the Phone's filing system with "Datei / mit Handy verbinden" ("Handy" is the funny word that Germans invented for a cell phone). Before the first copy the phone's memory card has to be prepared for LiveWorld. MapInstaller does this automatically.

When selecting a drive make sure that you chose the drive corresponding to your phone. After this the phones filing system will be opened.

Drag and drop the desired production from the window of the local filing system (Lokale Ablage) to the phone's window (Handy). The production will now be installed to your phone. Please note, that most memory cards are very slow. The transfer of a production can take up to 20 minutes and more.

Installation of external tour files

LiveWorld Desktop MapInstaller can import tours which come in formats such as *.ovl (TOP50-products*, Geogrid exchange format) and *.gpx (GPS Exchange format).

*  Top50 is the official government topographic map for Germany, Austria and Switzerland at a scale of 1:50,000

ovl
ASCII overlay files of TOP50 products are supported (Geogrid-Viewer). All objects of type 3, that have been produced with "Grafik/Linie" are transforemed into LiveWorld tour data. Elevation data are not available in this format.

gpx
GPS Exchange format - all <trk> segments are transforemed into LiveWorld tour data. This format supports elevation data.

Chose "Datei/Import..." (file/import...) and then the tour to be imported.

Now you can determine which tours are to be imported and into which maps they are going to be installed.
